3. Windows Live Search – a new search engine by Microsoft
This new search engine was launched in beta release and started officially in early September (per http://www.live.com/). The search engine is also available from www.msn.com and is one of the “Live” series products.
The “Live” product family is intended to include various search engine based applications, including some office programs. The Live range is also expected to be integrated with Vista, the new operating system from the Redmond-based company.
There is no doubt Microsoft will have to invest heavily to make progress against Google. However, if Live becomes popular, it might turn out to be the search engine of choice when our customers request SEO optimisation.

Vista’s launch next year will probably clarify this. As a bundled package, less informed Vista users (and professionals too lazy to explore other options) will start to use Live by default, exactly as with Internet Explorer, for many users the only web browser they’re even aware of.
Live Search however offers a number of interesting features - not least the opportunity to write one’s own macros for filtering search results.
But Live is not perfect either. Already there are problems with Opera under Linux. According to a report in Dziennik Internautów magazine: In Opera under Linux, a pull-down menu of the More button hides itself for some unknown reason once you point the mouse to it. This menu is needed to run macros, so Opera users will not be able to use this functionality.
For Live to become popular, prospective users will have to wait and see.
